Nacido en Tokio Shibuyu día de Año Nuevo de 1960, el entusiasmo por el cine de Tsukamoto se inició con el formato Super-8 a la tierna edad de catorce años. A finales de la década de 1970 se construyó teatros móviles en Tokio para presentar su trabajo.Se graduó de la Facultad de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Nihon pasó cuatro años trabajando para un estudio de cine comercial, antes de salir a perseguir sus ambicionesen el teatro, a partir de su propia compañía, el 'Kaijyu "(fantasma). Pronto regresó a la producción cinematográfica, obteniendo éxito con Tetsuo y teniendo una mirada intuitivasegundo en el mismo tema con Tetsuo II Cuerpo de martillo en esta ocasión en una escala mucho más grande en color espectacular, que hizo un excelente uso de sus ideas experimentales y provocativa.

Born in Shibuyu Tokyo on New Years Day 1960, Tsukamoto’s enthusiasm for film began with the Super-8 format at the tender age of fourteen. In the late 1970’s he built mobile theatres in Tokyo to showcase his work. Graduating from the fine arts department of Nihon University he spent four years working for a commercial film studio before leaving to pursue his ambitions in the theatre, beginning his own troupe, the ‘Kaijyu’ (phantom). He soon returned to film production, gaining success with Tetsuo and taking a second intuitive look at the same subject with Tetsuo II Body Hammer this time on a much larger scale in spectacular colour, which made excellent use of his experimental and provocative ideas.
